Personal Property
Your personal property is covered for a loss by the following perils:
- Fire or Lightning
- Windstorm of Hail
- Explosion
- Riot or Civil Commotion
- Aircraft
- Vehicles
- Smoke
- Vandalism
- Theft
- Glass Breakage
- Falling Objects
- Weight of ice, snow or sleet
- Sudden and accidental discharge of water or steam from a plumbing,
heating or air conditioning system, or household appliance
- Collapse of building
- Freezing of a plumbing, heating, air conditioning system or
household appliance
- Sudden and accidental damage from artificially generated
electrical current (Does not include loss to tubes or transistors.)
Additional Coverages
We cover the additional cost of living in hotels, eating in
restaurants, etc., while the insured residence is not habitable due to
an insured loss. Pays up to 20% of the amount of coverage
provided under personal property coverage with no deductible.
- Improvements and Betterments
Covers improvements, alterations or additions you make to rented
property, Limited to 10% of insurance on personal property.
- Personal Property Away From Home
Coverage applies to your personal property anywhere in the
world. Limited coverage applies to your property usually located
at other than your residence premises.
Personal Liability Protection
This coverage gives you and your family living with you 24 hours a
day liability protection against claims caused by almost any
unintentional act.
You are covered for accidents caused by your pets and your
participation in sports activities.
Coverage applies where you live and all other premises you may own
such as vacation cabins, vacant land, etc., subject to the limitations
in the policy. Also, reasonable medical payments are provided for
guests whether you are liable or not.
Additional Liability Coverages
Pays expenses in a suit we defend on your behalf, such as court
costs, attorney fees, investigator fees, expenses of witnesses and
witness fees.
Pays premium on appeal bonds, bond to release attachments, and
the cost of bail bonds.
Pays expenses you incur for necessary medical aid to other people
at the time of an accident in which you are involved.
- Damage to Property of Others
Pays up to $500 for damage to property of others caused by a
qualified family member where you are not legally liable.
Optional Coverages
- Personal Articles Floater
Extends protection for your personal articles, such as jewelry,
furs or fine arts, when their value is higher than the limits stated
in the policy. Pays up to the insured value of the article
- Contents Replacement Cost
Extends protection on your personal property to include the cost
of repair or replacement without deduction for depreciation.
This optional coverage pays the replacement cost up to four times
the actual cash value of the item (100% of replacement cost in
Minnesota and South Dakota), but not more than the policy limit.
- Personal Umbrella Liability (Separate policy)
Provides coverages for a million dollars or more of excess
personal liability protection and, subject to exclusions,
protections for many situations not covered by your homeowners
insurance.
Extends protections for damage caused by an earthquake up to the
policy limit, subject to a deductible.
Discounts / Credits (Not
available on all policies or in all states.)
If the qualified family members of your household have not smoked
tobacco products in the past two years, you can save money with our
Non-Smoker Discount.
- Protective Devices Discount
If you maintain qualified protective devices, like fire alarms,
deadbolt locks, you can qualify for additional discounts to your
policy
If you are 50 years old or above, you may qualify for the 50 Plus
Discount. The discount varies according to your age.
If your automobile is also insured through us, you may qualify
for this discount.
