Travel Accident Insurance

Travel Accident Insurance coverage is designed to provide accident protection to eligible employees.  Employers may choose from a wide range or options or design a plan to meet their own unique needs.

PLANS OF PROTECTION

Business Travel Accident

Provides 24-hour coverage for eligible employees against most types of accidents while on a business trip.  This covers travel as a passenger on any scheduled airline, most civilian aircraft, a public conveyance, and while operating a private passenger automobile.  In addition, coverage is provided as a pedestrian, while staying in hotels and while visiting customers on business trips.

 

Business & Pleasure Travel Accident

Provides 24-hour coverage for eligible employees against most types of accidents.  In addition, this plan provides coverage while at home, work, commuting, vacationing or otherwise traveling for business or pleasure.

Specific Flight

Provides coverage for eligible employees as passengers while on a one-way or round-trip flight aboard a specific scheduled airline or civilian aircraft.

Specific Trip

Provides 24-hour coverage for eligible employees while on a specific trip, including, including while as passenger on most civilian aircraft.

Company-Owned or Leased Aircraft

Provides coverage for a eligible employees while travfeling as a passenger aboard an aircraft owned or leased by the employer or organization.  Coverage may also be provided for corprate pilots and crew.

War Risk

Provides coverages for eligible employees against accidental injury or death as the result of an act of war in a specified period and region.

Extension of Coverage

The policy may be amended to provide extensions of coverage for Newly Acquired Corporations or Merged Organizations, Newly Acquired Aircraft and Commuting to and from Work.

 

DESCRIPTIONS OF COVERAGE

Accidental Death and Dismemberment

Provides a benefit for accidental loss of life, sight, speech, hearing or severance of a hand or foot.  Loss must be total and irrecoverable and result from the injury.

 

Accidental Death, Dismemberment and Plegia

In addition to Accidental Death and Dismemberment, a benefit is provided for the permanent paralysis of two limbs without severance due to a covered accident.  The paralysis must result in complete and irrecoverable loss of use of the limbs.*

  • Monthly In-hospital.
  • Use of Seat Belts.

The above benefits are payable to the employee, except benefits for loss of life are payable to the beneficiary named by the employee.  In most states, the employer may not be named beneficiary under this group insurance plan.  Benefit payments may be paid in a lump sum or payment in installments may be arranged.

 

ELIGIBLE PERSONS

Travel Accident Insurance is designed for employer/employee groups, board of directors/committee members of profit and non-profit organizations.  Plans may also be issued to cover only certain names employees.

SCHEDULE OF BENEFITS

If an insured person sustains more than one loss from the same covered accident, the benefit will be the largest single amount among those listed above and will not exceed the Principal Sum for all losses combined.

PRINCIPAL SUM & BENEFIT LIMITS

Employers may elect a Principal Sum (Maximum Benefit) limit pper person ranging from $25,000 to $1,000,000 (higher limits possible).  The benefit limit may be the same for all employees or may differ by class.

Guarantee Life also offers aggregate benefit limits up to $10,000,000 (higher limits possible).  If more than one employee sustains losses resulting from the same accident, their combined benefits will be limited to the aggregate limit.  Prorated benefits will be paid for each employee's loss.

The Principal Sum, or a stated percentage, is payable if an insured person sustains an injury:

  • Due to a coverage accident, and that injury directly results in his/her death,* or
  • Which directly results in the permanent total paralysis or loss of limbs, sight, speech or hearing.*

*The accident must occur while insured.  The loss must result directly from the injury and from no other causes and must be sustained within 365 days after the accident.

BENEFIT EXCLUSIONS & LIMITATIONS

An aggregate limit of indemnity against all losses sustained by insured persons of a common employer or organization will apply to the Travel Accident Plan

Benefits are not paid for any loss caused by or resulting from these, except as otherwise specifically covered by the policy:

  • Self-inflicted injury or suicide.
  • Sickness, disease or bodily infirmity, or medical/surgical treatment not required for a covered accidental injury.
  • War, any act of war, active military duty.
  • Participation in a riot, assault or felony.
  • Voluntary inhalation of poisonous gas, use of drugs or driving while intoxicated or under the influence of drugs (except prescribed by a doctor).
  • Acting as pilot, crewmember or operator of any aircraft.
  • Aeronautical sports or air travel, except as specifically provided.*

The Business Travel Accident plan does not cover travel to and from work, or travel while on vacation or leave of absence.

The Specific Trip plan does not cover travel between home and the regular workplace.

*Note: unless special provisions are included, air travel will be excluded when the aircraft is noncivilian, is owned or leases by the employer or policy holder or is being used for a certain hazardous activities (fire fighting, exploring, pipe or powerline inspection or aerial photography).
